Oct 26th 1848, from David Logan (was later Mayor of Portland) to Mary Logan in Springfield IL, San Jose Cal 29 Dec and 40¢ ms. cancel in red (probably 1848), good letter talking about establishing ferry across Willamette River and how there was tremendous emigration from California to Oregon, also additional part of letter datelined Springfield Feb 19th asking how Mary should send letter back to David, Fine. San Jose marking appears to be the listing for 1848 in ASCC catalog.
