U.S. Back of the Book Collections, 1912 to 1913 "Darregh" Shanghai Overprints, group of 10 items, some on piece, prepared by John Darregh, the Shanghai Postal Agent, but not authorized by the Postal Dept. in Washington, most unusual and scarce items, information on issues incl., seldom seen, Fine to Very Fine. In the ensuing tempest over the issues, the agent was forced to justify the unauthorized overprints, so he called them "precancels", which Washington accepted. Estimate $5,000-6,000.
