Great Britain 1840 1d Black, Plate 6, "Charles Dickens" Signed Cover and Letter, SG#2, SG #2, Envelope with black Maltese cross cancel, London OC 27 1840 cancel on reverse, close to good margins, signed at lower left, Scott #1. Addressed to "Edward Moxon Esquire", a publisher in Piccadilly, the transcript of the letter is as follows: "Will you have the goodness to send me at your convenience, a copy of each of your famous reprints (except the Shakespeare) and two copies of the Beaumont and Fletcher, as I want to make a present of one of them", Postscript: "I include the Campbell in one volume, of course; Charles Lamb too, by the bye, except the letters, which I have." The cover and letter have been in California for a number of years and was last offered on the market in 1988, only the second Penny Black cover known signed by Dickens and the only one with original correspondence. Postal Card - Airpost: 1967 Boy Scout 6¢, Blue & Black Missing, #UXC7b, #UXC7b, Unused, extremely fine in every respect. Normal for comparison. PSE (2004) cert. UPSS #SA7a with cyan and black missing, immaculate in every respect. The other copy that we know about of #UXC7b realised $7000 in a 2000 auction. We believe there may be one other in private hands. A copy of #UXC7c (red and yellow omitted) of which there are also probably two or three known also, realized $10,000 in a 2001 auction. Estimate $6,000-7,000
This discovery copy was obtained several years after the initial printing and has been in this individual's private hands until now. This is a critical piece for the Boy Scout or Stationery buyer.
